We are gradually nearing this season’s MVP announcement and till now we know that Nikola Jokic looks like the one getting it with Joel Embiid standing an outside chance. Apart from these two the usual greats like LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry’s name pop up every week. But the first two of them have simply not played enough games this season to win the prestigious award and for Curry, though he is having an insane season, this team have not been that great and he looks like the only Warrior at Golden State at the moment.
Most of the people are divided with their opinions on who should be getting the MVP just like most of them are divided on their top 5 players as well. Everyone has their own list with a few common names in it.
Former NBA champion and current analyst Kendrick Perkins made a list of the top five terrifying players in the NBA. While most people will have LeBron James in their lineup, Perkins does not agree with any of them. He even skipped Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo from his list.
Perkins started making the list by picking Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid as his fifth pick. He said, “I call him the 270 lbs version of Hakeem Olajuwon.”
At four he picked Denver Nuggets talisman and potential MVP of this season, Nikola Jokic and called him, “The modern-day Larry Bird.”
Wizards star Russell Westbrook was also on this list at the third spot mainly due to his current form. He reasons, ” He is tearing the league up right now…” and that he is “One of the most polarizing figures the game has ever had.”
The top two spots belonged to Golden State Warriors talisman Steph Curry who has been in mesmerising form with his exceptional sharpshooting. Perkins ended the list by putting Kevin Durant at the top.
Most of the picks keeping the current season in mind is pretty on point. However, some fans on Twitter called Perkins out for putting Westbrook over Embiid. So he came up with a reply, “You obviously hadn’t been watching what Russell Westbrook has been doing lately!”
The 32-year-old has been dropping some monstrous triple-doubles this season and he has raised that bar at Washington and that is why they are going to compete at the play-ins this season. hence in terms of impact solely he is literally up near the top and so Perkins’ rank justifies the point.
