Kelly Oubre was a panic buy from the Golden State Warriors last season after they saw Klay Thompson miss out for another season due to an Achilles injury. However, Oubre’s latest trade to the Warriors has not gone as per his liking. He has seen his former tram, Phoenix Suns reach the NBA finals after a long time.
However one cannot complain about having players like Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green and their teammates.
The Warriors signed Kelly Oubre Jr. from Oklahoma City Thunder as the Suns have already traded the player before the Warriors’ interest. GSW got the small forward in exchange for a conditional 2021 Round 1 pick and a Round 2 pick (via Denver Nuggets). Oubre will become an unrestricted free agent in the 2021 offseason.
Despite his undecided future, the 25-year-old forward admitted that he has learned a lot during his stay at the Bay Arena. Oubre told the Athletic, “I learned professionalism to the core. These guys have a résuméthat speaks for itself, so being able to be around those guys for a whole season and watch how they move, how they operate within the confines of the NBA, the professionalism that they ensure, I think that’s something I can jot down in my own notebook and respect those guys forever for.”
While he had several issues, he only had good things to say about the Warriors talisman Stephen Curry. Oubre is not happy how Thompson’s return will mean that the star player will take his place in the starting five. Whereas Oubre will be limited to a bench player for the next season.
The small forward started very nicely for the Suns and after moving to the Golden State Warriors he played really well in the absence of Steph Curry. He averaged a decent 15.4 points per game before getting injured and ruled out for the season.
In the same interview, the star added, “They have those championships for a reason. It’s the work ethic, it’s the mentality each and every day, it’s us versus them. It’s us versus the world. That’s the mindset you have to have with everything in life. I’m just blessed to have crossed paths with those guys and to know them as individuals.”
His future at Bay Arena is totally uncertain and with Klay Thompson returning next season, Oubre may join a new franchise in the coming months.
