The Dallas Mavericks have found it hard to deal with the Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference finals. Luka Doncic and his men are staring at a sweep as they are already 3-0 down after the first three encounters. Despite Doncic’s best efforts, the Slovenian has failed to guide the Mavericks to a win in this series.
The story for the Mavericks against Phoenix Suns was totally different as Luka Doncic popped up in certain matches and turned the script in Jason Kidd’s favour. But against the Warriors, the talent gap is very evident as the Mavericks have often struggled even when they have had a big lead in the game.
Apart from Luka, the Mavericks have not been consistent enough and that has been a major concern for Jason Kidd as a coach. Whereas for the Warriors even the players from the bench have stepped up and delivered some special performances.
Recently in a discussion about the Western Conference Finals, former Chicago Bulls player Jay Williams shared his opinion on the Mavericks at the “Keyshawn, JWill and Max,” show. There he said “The fourth best player on Golden State would probably be the number two option for the Dallas Mavericks.Whatever way you want to rank them, doesn’t matter – will probably be the second-best player for the Dallas Mavericks.”
Luka Doncic has led the Mavericks in all the statistics even in rebounds ahead of their center Dwight Powell by a big margin speaking volumes about the entire Mavericks support cast. Luka’s counterpart Stephen Curry is averaging 28.0 points, 8.3 rebounds and 6.7 assists and on top of that he has received great help from the likes of Andrew Wiggins, Draymond Green, Jordan Poole and of course Splash brother Klay Thompson.
Jay Williams pointe dout the exact thing as he feels that Luka DOnic’s supporting cast is simply nowhere near to the players what the Warriors have in this series. “You got Draymond Green, who is directing the team. You got Klay, who is coming alive when he’s supposed to come alive. Andrew Wiggins. He’s posterizing Luka Doncic and shutting him down at the same time,” Jay Williams added.
Luka Doncic, Jason Kidd and the Mavericks overall will be hoping that they come out in Game 4 with great fighting spirit and win the match in front of their home fans or else a sweep will be a major blot in their great season that they have had in their journey to the Conference finals.
