The Memphis Grizzlies developed a clear rivalry against the Golden State Warriors. There was some chatter while both teams met in the playoffs last season. The teams are once again gearing up to face each other on Christmas day. Grizzlies talisman Ja Morant cannot wait to face the reigning champions on the big day.
Recently ESPN’s Mallika Andrews sat down with the NBA’s one of the best young talents, Ja Morant who shared his thoughts on the season ahead and the match against the Warriors. Morant feels that theGrizzlies have the upper hand going into this big game.
“Obviously, it’s the team that kicked us out of the playoffs, so, you know, we always want to get our lick back. Everybody knows what Golden State means to the game of basketball, you know,” Morant said during the interview.
The matchup will be exciting as both teams will be looking to give their best. It is bound to be a very competitive game but sadly the Warriors are currently 15-18 and are without their leader and talisman Stephen Curry. So the clash between Morant and Curry will not be seen by the NBA fans all over the globe.
Still the Golden State Warriors will have the likes of Klay Thompson and Draymond green to lead the team along with young sensation Jordan Poole who will look to fill in Curry’s boots in this particular game.
Speaking more about the league and the team that can be a threat for the Grizzlies, Morant only named the Boston Celtics. When asked about the West, Morant feels that his Grizzlies are the main threat in this conference.
The Grizzlies are actually playing really well as they have a 19-11 record in the West and are in second position just behind the Denver Nuggets. Ja Morant’s men have a similar record to that of Nikola Jokic’s Nuggets.
However NBA analyst Shannon Sharpe criticized Ja Morant after hearing his comments. He feels that the Grizzlies talk too much for a team that has not won anything. He feels it won’t be very easy for the Grizzlies in the West as said by Morant.
“Grizzlies do a lot of talking for a team that hasn’t won anything,” Sharpe said. “Not just Ja, but all of them. Lot of yapping and a lot of yacking. What have they won? The last time the Grizz made a Western Conference finals, Ja Morant was 13,” Sharpe said in response to Morant’s comments.
