Boston Celtics have stayed afloat in the Eastern Conference finals as they forced Game 7 by winning Game 6 by 104-103 against Miami Heat on Saturday night. Celtics’ Derrick White was the main man for the team as he scored a buzzer-beater to keep his team alive in the series.
In fact, the Celtics had lost the opening three matches of the series but they have stayed up and running in the series. Boston is now one win away from becoming the first team in NBA history to come back from a 3-0 deficit in the playoffs (0-150 all-time).
In fact, Miami Heat was less than a second away from the NBA finals when White made his shot and took the series into the final game.
“Derrick White, like a flash of lightning, just came out of nowhere and saved the day, man,” teammate Jaylen Brown said.
“It was just an incredible play.”
The Celtics were leading by 100-91 with three minutes and four seconds to go but the Heat made a resounding comeback. But against the Celtics bounced back and White was delighted that they found a way to win and held their nerves in the end.
“I don’t know if poise is a great word to use with those last four minutes,” White would say later with a smile, “but we found a way to win.”
Boston Celtics talisman Jayson Tatum admitted he was in shock after a thrilling finish to the see-saw game.
“I’m still in disbelief,” Tatum said. “That s— was crazy.”
Heat’s Marcus Smart missed his shot which fell in White’s hand, who was able to deliver for his team in a do-or-die situation.
“It don’t do no good to stand in the corner there, whether he makes it or not,” White said, “so I just was crashing the glass, and it came right to me.”
Celtics certainly have the winning impetus on their side and they will be looking to carry their form. The seventh and deciding game of the East finals will be played on Monday night.
