Los Angeles Lakers talisman LeBron James feels it was a complete team effort from his team after they won by 140-132 against Houston Rockets on Monday night. The Lakers had lost their previous three matches and they were able to bounce back strongly.
James scored a season-high 48 points as he led from the front and he was delighted with the team’s effort. Furthermore, Russell Westbrook contributed 24 for the Lakers and committed only two turnovers.
This was the 100th 40-point game for LeBron James in his glorious career as he continued to deliver for the Lakers.
In fact, James had scored his 38000th career point against the Philadelphia 76ers in the previous match but the Lakers lost that game on Sunday night. But James went on to play back-to-back matches despite having a sore ankle.
“I was extremely exhausted today,” James said as quoted by AP. “I could have very easily took tonight off, but … our ballclub couldn’t use me taking a night off, I didn’t feel like. I wanted to sit on that loss with Philly last night. I wanted to get that out of my taste buds and see if we could win a ballgame tonight. It was a complete team effort, and I just tried to make plays.”
This is also the 72nd time in LeBron James’ long career that he has scored 40 points or more in the regular season. The team’s head coach Darwin Ham was all praise on the veteran, who is still going strong in his 20th NBA season.
“I think it’s historic, man, on a lot of different levels,” Lakers coach Darvin Ham said. “For him to be at this point in his career and still able to produce at the level in which he’s producing, I think all of us being able to witness it, be a part of it, it shows his competitive spirit, his no-quit mentality. … Whenever he’s out there, he’s just been competing. It’s amazing to see.”
The Lakers will next take on Sacramento Kings on Wednesday night.
