The Boston Celtics have been on a roll as they are leading the Eastern Conference with a fine record of 17-4. While the stars, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown have been exceptional, new signing Malcolm Brogdon has also shown his class. The former Pacers point guard shared how he has had a great reception by the players and the fans and feels that this is an experience like no other.
After they lost the finals last season against the Warriors, they Celtics needed someone who could come off the bench and lead the second string on court and also take good care of the ball. And Brogdon has exactly done that with aplomb. The trade happened in early July and since then not only has Brogdon shown his class to the players but he has also settled in with the team and their fans.
In 17 matches, the point guard is averaging 14.0 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.8 assists and is shooting a decent 46.9% from beyond the arc.
While the Celtics remain a very intimidating defensive unit, they have added someone like Brogdon to increase their attacking flow even when the star players are not on court. Brogdon is absolutely loving the franchise and feels it a great honour for him and his presence is also helping the franchise win games, so the respect is mutual.
“This is a treat,” Brogdon said. “I think for any NBA player, whether you ask Marcus Smart, (Jayson) Tatum, (Jaylen) Brown, anybody — it’s a treat playing on a team like this.”
The fans also love the 2016-17 Rookie of the year as they know how good Brogdon can be at this level and it is a big thing for him to take up a bench role. The former Pacers man has quickly become a leader of the team and it is evident on how he guides the youngsters and helping them get better.
Brogdon’s only problem has been his consistent injury concerns and the fans are worried about that and nothing else. He is already making a name for himself as a major asset for the team. Fans are expecting a match up against the Bucks, Brogdon’s former team, hence they want him fit for the playoffs as the fans feel they can win the title this time.
