Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant has grabbed all the limelight for wrong reasons in recent times. However he has finally opened up on his controversial gun incident on his Instagram live. Morant is currently under suspension for his actions on the same.
He sat for an interview with analyst Jalen Rose to share his perspective which people deserve to know. The youngster revealed that the gun on show was not his and he does not condone violence. He also added that he would show people who he really is and change their current narrative.
“The gun wasn’t mine. It’s not who I am, I don’t condone any type of violence, but I take full responsibility for my actions. I made a bad mistake and I can see now the image that I painted over myself with my recent mistakes.
“In the future, Imma show everybody who Ja really is and what I’m about and change this narrative,” Morant revealed.
He accepted full responsibility for his actions for showing the gun on the Instagram live but refused to name the owner’s name.
The Grizzlies star went to conselling in Florida and could return to action sooner or later. He has accepted his mistakes and regrets his actions. He also met NBA CommiissionerAdam Silver in New York for a meeting.
Earlier Morant was suspended indefinitely by Grizzlies as they wanted to set a precedent on stricting opposing gun violence as a franchise. But later NBA suspended him for eight games “for conduct detrimental to the league.” He has already completed five-game suspension and will soon be back in action.
Morant may make comeback on March 20 when the Grizzlies take on Dallas Mavericks but he may need some time for conditioning aswell. Hence he may be gradually introduced into action.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver opened up on Morant’s suspension suggesting that the player understands his responsibility and has learned from his actions.
“Ja has also made it clear to me that he has learned from this incident and that he understands his obligations and responsibility to the Memphis Grizzlies and the broader community extend well beyond his play on the court,” Silver on Morant’s suspension.
The Memphis Grizzlies are third in the Western conference with a record of 41-27 and are only behind leaders Denver Nuggets and Sacramento Kings. The Grizzlies fans and team management had a fear of losing out Morant in the postseason but now they can be a lot relieved with him coming back in a few days.
