I was doing my job on the court – Denis Schroder after securing LA Lakers contract
The Lakers have signed the services of free agent Dennis Schroder for one year contract of $2.6 million. The German player impressed with his skills while playing for the national team in the EuroBasket.
He led Germany to the semifinals but they lost to Spain. However, Germany took on Poland for third place and they had a chance to win their first medal since 2005.
Schroder averaged 13.5 points (.344 3FG%), 3.3 rebounds and 4.6 assists in 64 matches he played in the previous season for Boston Celtics and Houston Rockets.
“We are extremely pleased to welcome Dennis Schröder back to the Lakers,” said Pelinka. “Not only do Dennis and Coach Ham share a player-coach history together, but they also reflect one another’s mentality of toughness with an extremely competitive edge. Dennis will add both depth and an on-ball defensive presence to our core at the guard position. He is also a proven scorer and playmaker. We are really excited for Dennis to get to camp and get back to work in L.A. after his highly successful run with his national team this offseason.”
“My agent worked all the time, negotiated, talked to all NBA clubs,” Schroder said. “He was doing his job, and I was doing my job on the court in Cologne and Berlin.”
“Germany has been waiting for this medal for 17 years, and writing this story is enough motivation to put all your skills and strength on the scales once again,” the guard said.
Germany defeated Poland by 82-69 to win the third place medal in the EuroBasket.
Meanwhile, Schroder will look to deliver the goods for the Lakers, as they could not even qualify for the play-in tournament in the previous season.
