LA Lakers new head coach Darvin Ham is looking forward to working with Russell Westbrook. Ham, who replaced Frank Vogel, said that the communication with Russell has been spot on and he can’t wait to savor success with him.
Westbrook wasn’t at his best in the previous season of the NBA but Ham is hopeful that he will be able to turn the tables in the upcoming season.
Ham said while talking to the media, “Everything has been clear and upfront between him and me. He’s been a pleasure. … He’s been that since Day 1. … The communication has been great both ways. … I can’t wait to succeed with him.”
Meanwhile, Russell Westbrook averaged 18.5 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 7.1 assists in 78 games in the previous season and he will be looking to come up with a much-improved show.
Recently, LA Lakers owner and president Jeanie Buss had picked Russell Westbrook as the team’s best player of the last edition, which had raised many eyebrows.
On the other hand, Ham had also earlier put his weight behind Russell Westbrook to come back stronger for the Lakers.
Ham said during the LA Lakers summer league showcase, “Russ, in my opinion, is in great shape. He’s durable. In this system, this ‘four-out, one-in system, he’s going to have a chance to screen-and-roll and make plays. He’s going to have a chance run on the break, slash, and get layups.
“He’s going to have chances to sprint out to the corner, flatten the defense, get corner threes, as well as the things he already does well in terms of getting the ball and pushing the pace and pushing the tempo. So I’m excited as hell to have Russell Westbrook on our team.”
There is no doubt that Westbrook is going to hold the key for the Lakers along with Anthony Davis and LeBron James.
