After all their struggle last time out, Kyrie Irving and the Dallas Mavericks are pretty impressive this season. After the Mavericks acquired Irving last season they fell in the Western Conference standings. This made the fans question whether Irving and Luka Doncic are a good pair for the Mavericks. However, they have answered all their doubters in the 2023-24 season.
Although Irving has featured in 26 matches, the Mavericks are seventh in the Western Conference only a game behind sixth-placed Sacramento Kings. With the playoff bid still out of reach, they are trying extremely hard to get in contention.
Irving has been dropping in several impressive performances this season and not many players have managed to stop the superstar. However, the American football star Le’Veon Bell has achieved the unthinkable against Irving. He managed to stop Irving’s scoring streak by betting over on him.
The veteran superstar had a five-game streak where he scored 35 points, 33 points, 44 points, and 42 points. However, Bell came on X (formerly Twitter) before putting a bet on Irving saying that his scoring streak would end after this game and it was disastrous as Irving scored only 12 points in that particular game.
“The Mavericks play tomorrow? now just watch, ima prove it to the world I can slow down Kyrie … I’m betting the over, idc what the number is … lol,” Bell wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
While the NFL star believes that he is the reason for Irving’s poor performance, it was overall a very very underwhelming performance collectively from the Mavericks. The Los Angeles Lakers started with great positivity from the outset and they led by six points at the end of the first quarter. However, the Mavericks closed the lead to only two at half-time. Despite all that, the Lakers came out all guns blazing in the third quarter as they outscored the Mavs 42-27 and went on to win the game 127-110 at the end of regulation.
Overall it was just a poor game for the entire Mavericks lineup as they shot only 27.5% from downtown and had only 46.2% from the field. But overall, the Mavericks have a decent enough opportunity to sneak into the playoff positions with the way they are playing. While a lot depends on their star players Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic, they will look to avoid underwhelming performances like they did against the Lakers.
