Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum, despite having a fantastic postseason last time out, did not have the best NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors. He had a tough time dealing with things and was kept at bay by the Dubs brilliantly. However NBA Analyst Brian Windhorst believes that the player has the capability to one day win the FInals MVP while guiding his team to the silverware.
It was clear that the 3-time NBA All Star did not produce that level in his play that would help the Celtics bag home their 18th NBA title. He was second best in more than one aspect and that affected a lot for the Celtics losing the Finals in six games.
Despite all of that the 24-year-old is surely one of the biggest stars present in the NBA. The onus of Celitcs again winning titles is on the players and Tatum will be looking to improve that and take charge in that department. He will surely look to run it back once again with players like Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart alongside him.
Recently Brian Windhorst was discussing the best player in five years and he thought about Tatum’s name among many others. While the needle kept swaying around Giannis Antetokounmpo and Luka Doncic, Windhorst shifted it towards the Celtics superstar. He said, “You guys know that I’m a big believer in Jayson Tatum. I believe he is Finals MVP-caliber player. Could have been this year’s Finals MVP, he didn’t get it done, clearly, in the finals. He didn’t play his best. The Celtics didn’t play their best.”
Windhorst shares how we are going to learn a lot about the player in the upcoming season and how he improves his games from the learning of last season and how he wants to evolve with time. It will give us an idea of the level Tatum will reach as a player, believes Windhorst.
“Watching how Tatum reacts to that first major setback is – I mean, I’m not saying this is a make-or-break season for him at all, to be clear – but like, you know, we’re going to learn a lot about what Tatum’s ceiling is going to be and how he reacts to it this year,” he explained.
After last year’s disappointment of reaching so far but not far enough will sting for the Celtics for sometime. But they have made some changes and are once again ready to play a good level of basketball and hopefully challenge for the title.
