Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr was delighted after his team got off to a winning start in NBA 2022-23 season after beating the LA Lakers by 123-109 on Tuesday night. The home team was able to take a 19-10 lead but the Lakers bounced back to finish the first quarter, trailing by only three points.
However, it was the third quarter in which the defending champions took giant strides in the lead. The Dubs won the third quarter by 32-19 and they were able to put their noses ahead.
Kerr was happy to get the win under his belt as it was the ring night and the opening match of the season for his team as they were able to keep the stomach butterflies at bay. Steph Curry started the season with 33 points as he once again ticked the right boxes.
“I’m thrilled with the win,” coach Steve Kerr said as quoted by AP (ESPN). “Ring night is never an easy game and the first game of the season is usually filled with some nerves early on.”
Jordan Poole, who recently had an altercation against Draymond Green said that they needed to get the job done.
“We went out there, we had a job to do tonight to win a game,” Poole said. “It was a ring night and that’s really what we were focused on finishing the first game. It was a huge win against a really good team.”
On the other hand, LeBron James top-scored for the Lakers with 31 points, 14 rebounds, and eight assists. Anthony Davis scored 27 points while Russell Westbrook scored 19 points. However, it was the third quarter that was the turning point of the game.
“That third quarter is where they always excelled when they made this transition to being a powerhouse team,” James said. “You’ve always got to be ready for the third quarter, and we were not tonight.”
GSW will next face Denver Nuggets on Friday.
