Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr showered praise on Klay Thompson after they defeated the struggling Utah Jazz by 118-110 on Sunday night. Steph Curry was rested but Thompson stepped up in the talisman’s absence.
Thompson scored 32 points as he played at the top of his game. The Dubs took a 13-point lead after out-scoring the opposition by 41-28 in the first quarter.
“He was amazing,” coach Steve Kerr said. “Klay’s shot-making really helped us get that lead.”
Kerr wants his team to keep the winning impetus with only four games left in the regular season. The Warriors have won seven out of their last eight games.
“It’s going to be interesting, four games left and lots of possibilities,” he said.
Meanwhile, Steph Curry has played in 71 matches this season and Kerr said it was a much-needed break for the veteran.
“He needed it, this is the most games he’s played in a long time,” Kerr said about the 36-year-old two-time MVP. “It’ll serve him well for next week.”
On the other hand, Jonathan Kuminga came off the bench to add 21 points and 10 rebounds after missing the last six games due to tendonitis in both knees.
“I was more concerned with going in there and impacting a win because a win is a win at the end of the day and playing my game,” Kuminga said.
Furthermore, Brandin Podziemski scored 16 points, seven rebounds, and six assists.
“We’ve just been finding ways to win right now,” Podziemski said. “I think we’re playing really well, offensively especially we’re sharing the ball. We’re just playing together, having fun.”
