NBA legend Jerry West has backed Victor Wembanyama to go a long way in his career in the league. The Frenchman will turn out for San Antonio Spurs in the upcoming season after he was picked as the NBA first draft.
The youngster has shown all the skills to go a long way in his career and a lot of experts expect him to take the NBA by storm. Many NBA analysts have likened a young Victor with veteran LeBron James.
At 2.19 metres, the Frenchman has joined the tallest players in NBA history and he will be looking to grab his chances.
West said on Rich Eisen Show, “A disclaimer first, because I’m still involved with the Clippers today and you’re really not supposed to talk about other players, and I hope the NBA understands that,” West said.
West added the youngster has an all-round game on the court and he is pretty spectacular.
“He is one of those players that you feel like he’s gonna be an iconic player. If you watch him, he’s highly skilled. He probably needs to be more schooled in the NBA. He can run, he can shoot three-point shots, I think his best skill is going to be blocking shots early in his career. For people that haven’t seen him play, he’s pretty spectacular.”
The 85-year-old, who played for the Los Angeles Lakers during his heydays, is also impressed with Victor’s maturity while speaking to the media.
“The other thing about him, if you put a microphone in front of him, he is fantastic,” West said. “To me, he’s more than a basketball player, he’s someone who gives the league another positive voice.”
Victor will look to deliver for San Antonio Spurs and he will aim to grow under the tutelage of Gregg Popovich.
