The Milwaukee Bucks truly stole the show last season as most people were expecting something out of the Los Angeles Lakers or the Brooklyn Nets. Those two teams were the favourites but it is kind of strange that none of them made it to the finals.
Instead, it was the Bucks who defeated the Phoenix Suns to win their second NBA Championship. However, there were factors behind the fall of the Lakers and Nets last season as some of their key players got injured at the wrong time and which saw their seasons fall apart.
While the Lakers and Nets stacked star players into their roster, the Bucks only got Jrue Holiday. None of the fans as such thought them to be contenders for the title despite their strong regular season. Most people knew Giannis Antetokounmpo’s poor playoffs records and discounted them.
But the Bucks kept on winning and with wins against the Miami Heat, Brooklyn Nets, Atlanta Hawks and eventually the Phoenix Suns, most NBA fans were spellbound by the Greek Freak’s performance. The Bucks dominated both ends of the floor and Holiday and Khris Middleton showed great support to Giannis who was also brilliant for the Bucks in the playoffs.
It was a season in which the Milwaukee Bucks made a statement for themselves. But despite their title win last season, they aren’t the favourites to win the title this time around. While it may seem like the people are making the same mistake like last season but with the teams that the Lakers and the Nets have assembled, they are definitely favourites to bag the title. However, the Bucks have maintained the same lineup and are confident that they can defend the title. This attitude of the organisation has impressed former NBA legend, Charles Barkley.
In a recent appearance at NBA on TNT, Barkley said, “I want to say one thing about them. I love the fact they never say anything. All of these fools and jackasses in our business have been talking about Brooklyn for the last six months, everybody picking Brooklyn. Everybody picking the Lakers in the West. Milwaukee Bucks, I love the fact they never say anything.”
The Bucks proved themselves on the court as they started their opening night with a 127-104 big win against the Brooklyn Nets.
