Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo is truly a modern great of the game with his exceptional skills at the game. But former Washington Wizards player Gilbert Arenas does not feel the Greek Freak is good enough despite all his accolades and therefore his comments against the Greek superstar saw him make headlines.
Giannis is only 27 and in his time at the NBA he has helped the Bucks win the NBA Championship after 50 years, won two MVPs, a Defensive Player of the Year trophy and is surely one of the biggest players in the league currently. But Arenas does not buy a single thing that according to him the media tries to sells of the Greek Freak.
Recently in the No Chill podcast, Gilbert Arenas shared how he feels that Giannis is overhyped by the media as for him the Greek Freak does not have basketball sense or sense to train his body properly. Arenas shared, “The media tries to shorten this gap like ‘oh, he’s the best player in the league’. Not even close… I can look at his game and say he doesn’t understand basketball yet. He plays the sport. He won a championship. Cool. He doesn’t really understand how to be great, how to be better, how to train his body.”
This comment started the fire among many NBA players. Arenas was even heavily criticized by several former players. But only fellow European star Goran Dragic came out attacking the Wizards star sharing how Giannis has won so many accolades and is also an MVP whereas Gilbert Arenas has won nothing or that sort.
“Giannis is MVP. Gilbert Arenas, I don’t know, was he ever MVP? I don’t think so, so I think he no talk about Giannis. Giannis won a championship, he won MVP, he’s been the defensive player of the year. Sometimes when they retire, you just want to be relevant and sometimes you come out in the media. It is what it is. Gilbert Arenas, he was an unbelievable player, unbelievable scorer, but… in this generation, it’s a lot of good European players in the NBA,” Dragic replied to Gilbert Arenas on his Giannis criticism as he stood strong for his fellow European mate.
The Bucks and Giannis Antetokounmpo will be looking to comeback strong next season as they aim to get back the NBA Championship. Last season they fought hard but fell short against the Boston Celtics with their trusted warrior Khris Middleton out injured for the Bucks. This time they will be looking to comeback and aim for the title.
