Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry has won several accolades all throughout his illustrious career. But one thing that he has missed till now is the Finals MVP. Despite winning the NBA Championship multiple times, he has not been able to win the finals MVP. He has seen his teammates like Andre Iguodala and Kevin Durant lift the Finals MVP trophy but has not had the luck or opportunity to make it his own.
So in a recent interview, Curry shared how winning the Finals MVP this time against the Celtics will mean everything to him. He also believes that the new Western Conference MVP trophy is not something that holds great significance.
When asked about the Finals MVP, Curry shared, “It would mean everything. … You think about when Andre won, when KD won his 2, there’s just so much joy in that moment, no matter who wins it, there’s so much joy in that moment.”
The Warriors till now have had a topsy turvy ride in the NBA Finals as they lost the first match courtesy of a brilliant fourth quarter from the Celtics. But they backed it up with a fantastic performance as Stephe Curry once again showed his class and players like Jordan Poole and Draymond Green also had great outings as the Warriors drew level in the finals.
Now as the players head to Boston, Curry shared how he wants him to hold himself at a standard and winning the championship will help him to do that. He said, “You want to be able to experience it, and I think the context of every series changes in terms of what it’s gonna take to actually win.
“I think for us to win this championship, get three more wins and hold that Larry O’Brien trophy like I’m gonna have to keep playing the way I am and hold myself to that standard.”
Stephen Curry also won the Western Conference Finals MVP after the Warriors pinned down the Dallas Mavericks in the Conference Finals. But Curry feels that the smaller trophy has not motivation as players know how much effort they need to put to win the bigger trophy. “That smaller trophy isn’t the motivation at all. Uh, but you know what comes with winning the big one and what it takes to do that, so we’re focused on that,” he added.
Curry is someone who stands in between the Boston Celtics and the NBA Championship. He has already dropped two sensational performances and will be aiming to continue that form as they head to Boston for Game 3.
