Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr praised the Miami Heat and their organizational culture that is spearheaded by coach Erik Spoelstra. He was very impressed with the way the team manages to come back and win after extremely deflating losses throughout the postseason.
Kerr explained his thoughts about the Miami Heat on the “Draymond Green Show’. There is no denying that the Heat have been very impressive this season as hardly anyone expected them to reach the finals let alone put up a fight against the Denver Nuggets. They somehow made the Play-In tournament and from there they started building momentum. They have defeated some of the top teams in the Eastern Conference and are now looking to win the NBA Championship.
Steve Kerr genuinely praised the mentality that he saw in the Miami Heat players after they lost Game 1 and had to win in Denver where the hosts were unbeaten in the postseason. However, Heat broke that record and secure Game 2.
He explained Draymond by drawing parallels with the Warriors about building a championship mentality. “None of those guys on Miami are sitting there saying, ‘Well I didn’t play’ or ‘Man, they put in so and so.’ They’re just all about winning. And you know this from our groups that we’ve had. When you have that championship mentality, every guy is bought in. Every guy is just trying to win. Nobody cares about any of that stuff,” Kerr shared.
Miami Heat have gone from being the eighth seed to making the climb to fighting for an NBA Championship. The Heat pulled off a miracle in Game 2 where the Nuggets had a 15-point lead the Heat kept on fighting and turned it around to win 111-108 to bring the series to level terms.
The Heat definitely have the momentum on their side as that loss will deflate their opponents who saw their perfect postseason record at home simply get overturned. So there are chances that the Heat may win Game 3 heading into Miami but they have to keep Nikola Jokic in check as he has been brilliant all throughout the season.
While it is just the start of the Final series, Jokic would like to retaliate in Game 3 with a win after what happened in Game 2. The Nuggets are still considered the favourites but one must not underestimate the Miami Heat, who according to Steve Kerr has shown the champions’ mentality.
