Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo added another feature to his name during their 128-119 win over the Houston Rockets at the Finserv Forum on Sunday. He surpassed former Bucks legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the most rebounds in the team’s history.
The Greek Freak registered his 7,162nd rebound and finished the evening with 27 points and 17 rebounds as the Bucks were dominant over the Rockets, ending their winning streak.
Speaking to the media, Giannis kept it short and sweet as he expressed his honour for breaking this legendary record. “It’s a big honor. Nobody can ever take it from you,” He said referring to Kareem.
It was a historic night for the big man as he mostly owns the franchise records for the Bucks. The Greek Freak also joined legends like Michael Jordan, LeBron James and Kevin Garnett as the only players to lead the team in points rebounds and assists.
Giannis now holds many more records for the Bucks than just points, rebounds and assists. As per ESPN, the only record that he does not have is the most three points scored for the Bucks. But with his talent, the big man will surely break it someday.
Coming back to the game against the Rockets, Damian Lillard and Khris Middleton also had great outings. Lillard finished the night with 39 points, five rebounds and 11 assists. Meanwhile, Middleton amassed 20 points and three rebounds. Brook Lopez also returned with 18 points and six rebounds.
Giannis has been at is dominant best in recent matches and hence the Bucks have found their feet. They have shown great signs of consistency in the Easter Conference by winning matches. While they are working on their defence, Giannis with Lillard, Middleton and Lopez has a very potent team at their disposal.
Despite all his efforts, Giannis is keen to look at his future as he aspires to take the Bucks forward. “Great feeling. Hopefully, if I keep working hard there’s more to come. I have goals, and aspirations that I want to accomplish and I want to keep playing the game at a high level. I want to keep taking care of my body and I know by doing that sometimes you break records. But at the end of the day, I am blessed beyond to be the all-time leader in rebounds, but I got to keep on moving and keep on going forward,” Giannis shared.
The 29-year-old superstar is averaging 31.4 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 5.0 assists. He has been a force for the Bucks, especially in the last five games.
