Former NBA star Gilbert Arenas compares his suspension with Ja Morant’s current situation as the 50-game suspension looks like a possibility

Ja Morant is on the verge of getting suspended for 50 games as the NBA investigate more on his controversial matters. There are questions of whether or not the point-guard brought a firearm to the Grizzlies team plane.

He also flashed a gun during his Instagram live while he was in a Denver nightclub, it made things worse for the youngster who has now apologized to everyone whom he has disappointed and mostly importantly to the city of Memphis and the people.

Back in 2010, Gilbert Arenas was suspended for 50 games for violating the same policy while he plied his trade for the Washington Wizards. Arenas feels that because he was banned for 50 games, it is considered as a benchmark and hence the rumour of Morant getting suspended for 50 games.

He opened up on his situation back in 2010 and also compared it to Morant’s ongoing matter. “I’ve never gotten suspended for guns in the locker room. I guess they’re using 50 games as the benchmark, because that was what I got. The real story is, I got bullied into 50 games. What I got suspended for was detrimental to the team because when the media was attacking me, like Ja, I was reacting emotionally,’ Gilbert Arenas opened up on his suspension and how he felt during that time.

He shared that he was suspended indefinitely and how hard it was to take it all in as he also lost his Adidas deal. It was really a tough time for him as a basketball player. “I was suspended indefinitely until furthermore – ‘until we evalutate the situation’ – but all it was was to get me out of the media, because the story was too big for one or two games … (Commissioner David Stern) said, ‘You’re going to take 50 games or I’m going to come after your contract.’ At the time, I had just lost my Adidas deal,” he added.

The league is currently investigating if Ja Morant brought a firearm with himn during the team’s trip to away games. The CBA states that if a player has a possession of a firearm around the team premises then that player will be suspended for 50 games.

While the investigation is still on, but things really look very difficult for Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies. If he is slapped with a 50-game suspension then it will be a major hit to Grizzlies playoffs plans.
