The Boston Celtics have had a topsy turvy season and they are as low as 6th in the Eastern Conference. Brad Stevens’ men recently lost to the Dallas Mavericks courtesy of a Luka Doncic winner. At this point, the Celtics hold a 15-16 record and are not looking like a team that went as far as the Eastern Conference finals last season.
NBA Analyst and former Celtics player Kendrick Perkins spoke about the team’s performance after their defeat against the Mavericks on NBC Sport. Perkins was very honest as he shared how this team won’t even get to the conference finals let alone NBA finals. He also added how he feels that they will be out in the first round of the playoffs itself.
“If we’re looking at this Celtics team as it is presently constructed,” Perkins said. “We look at this team and think that this is a team that could possibly win this Eastern Conference and make it to the Finals, we’re all fooling ourselves. I don’t know if this Celtics team could make it out of the first round. That’s scary.”
The former NBA Champion, Perkins considers himself to be a part of the Celtics family and therefore watching their performance on the court has been a big disappointment for him. He understands the expectation that comes while playing for such a team but he was honest in his analysis about the Celtics.
“I’m embedded into the Celtic family, I played in Boston for eight and a half years, so I know the expectations. I know what the fans expect, I know what we expect. And right now, this is just unacceptable… We’ll be doing everybody a disservice if I would come and say… ‘Everything is going to be ok, it’s going to be perfectly fine.’ I want to do that, but I can’t, ” Perkins added.
It will only get tougher for Brad Stevens’ men from here in the East as teams like the 76ers, Nets and Pacers have all picked up their tempo and it will be difficult for Jayson Tatum and company to turn it around.
