Former NBA Champion and Boston Celtics legend Kevin Garnett believes that Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard have the best chance to win the NBA Championship in the upcoming season.
The Milwaukee Bucks changed the entire dynamics of the NBA with a single trade of Damian Lillard. Bringing him into their lineup was a master stroke for the Bucks as they were buoyed by Giannis’ push to do more to win the NBA Championship.
In the recent episode of KG Certified on Showtime Basketball, Kevin Garnett said that the Milwaukee Bucks are the favourites to win the title this season. He said, “Antetokounmpo and Dame will perfectly complement each other.”
Garnett even suggested that their coach can afford to run a single superstar on the court and rest the other for a stretch of six to eight minutes given the depth they have in their roster. “I think the Milwaukee situation is the most ready to win now. If they don’t win this year I will be very shocked…I think Giannis and Dame are going to appreciate each other just because they have each other. You can actually sit Giannis down for a six to eight-minute stretch. You can give Dame that six to eight minutes stretch…where it is just Dame, Middleton and Brook Lopez.”
KG has a point as Brook Lopez can fill in for Giannis and provide more assurance on the defensive end. His excellent communication and defensive skills will make life easier for Lillard. Garnet also compared this scenario with his career where he shared that he used to take a lot of load at Minnesota Timberwolves while in Boston things were smooth and they played as a team and eventually won the title. He feels the same thing may happen with Damian Lillard who has carried the Portland Trail Blazers for many years and now it is time for him to play his role to perfect and leave the rest to other players.
It will be exciting to see how Giannis and Lillard will pair up as a duo. They will have to develop that trust and understanding among themselves to win the league. We have seen the likes of Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Clippers build sensational lineups but they never went close to winning the title. So the chemistry between the players will be of prime importance for the Milwaukee Bucks heading into the new season.
