Milwaukee Bucks talisman Giannis Antetokounmpo has created a legacy for himself in the NBA. He guided the Bucks to their second NBA Championship last season and also won the NBA Finals MVP in the process.
The Greek freak’s rise in stakes has seen him being compared with several legends of the game. He finished with a 28 points average last season which eventually ended with the NBA title for his team.
Giannis is in exceptional form as he looks determined to defend the crown this season. His daunting frame coupled whit his fantastic transformation in the last few years has made him truly unstoppable. He is simply bossing most of the matchups. Former Detroit Piston star Isaiah Thomas comes up with a weirdly surprisingly comparison. He compared Giannis with Hall of Famer Ralph Sampson.
Ralph Sampson during his days had a big frame and was athletic just like Giannis. He played for teams like the Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers, etc. During his time he used to challenge Kareem Abdul Jabbar and other legends. Sampson had the potential to achieve so much more but his persistent injury problems came as a major roadblock.
“The one player that really reminds me a lot of Giannis – Ralph Sampson,” Isiah mentioned.“Ralph Sampson was 7″4′, bringing the ball up the court, making passes, shooting jump shots, dunking on you right hand, and left hand. I just hadn’t never seen anybody that tall but the skill that he had was just off the charts.”
The duo has very a similar skillset as it looks like Sampson was doing things on a basketball court which Giannis is doing now. So the comparison was pretty much justified. many experts feel that Sampson would have won more accolades and achieved a lot more if not for injury.
Giannis will hope that he avoids major injury concerns and take preventive measures to remain healthy. It has been a sensational rise to greatness for the boy from Greece. He came in the NBA very raw and gradually picked up things and became a better player every season. Antetokounmpo has won everything starting from the DPOY, Finals MVP, season MVP, All-star MVP and most importantly the prestigious NBA title.
His next aim is to defend this title this season along with his partner in crime Khris Middleton and several other talented players.
