In the great turn of events, the former Boston Celtics point guard Dennis Schroder finds himself back in the Los Angeles Lakers roster. The German international played really well at the EuroBasket and guided his team to the semifinals beating Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Greece in the process.
Schroder’s exceptional performances were finally rewarded as the Lakers once again decided to run with the German point guard. Although they lost to the eventual EuroBasket winners Spain in the semifinals, they secured the Bronze medal from the event after beating Poland. This was Germany’s first medal since 2005.
It is certain that Schroder was a big influence on this German side which showed great fight throughout the tournament. The former Celtics man suggested how he worked hard on the court and his agent worked hard to get him a new deal in the NBA for the upcoming season!
“My agent worked all the time, negotiated, talked to all NBA clubs,” Schroder said. “He was doing his job, and I was doing my job on the court in Cologne and Berlin.”
He shared how much this tournament and a medal here means to the entire Germany. Hence he feels enough motivation to put forward his best performances for his country.
“Germany has been waiting for this medal for 17 years, and writing this story is enough motivation to put all your skills and strength on the scales once again,” the guard said.
However even after joining the Lakers, he will have to go through a lot. Schroder has players like Russell Westbrook and Patrick Beverley ahead in the pecking order in his position. It is not unknown that Schroder can affect the game in many ways and offers different things that the other two point guards. But according to experts, the Lakers could have brought reinforcements in other positions as well.
But surely they also admit that adding Pat Bev and Dennis Schroder will surely improve the Lakers roster than the previous signings that they made in this off season. However the Lakers are still inferior to their competition in the Western Conference which include teams like reigning Champions, Warriors, rivals Clippers, Nuggets, Suns and lastly the Timberwolves.
After a humiliating season where they failed to qualify for the playoffs due to injuries and dipping form, it will be a major season for LeBron James and company. They need to step up this season and on paper they aren’t looking as convincing as they should.
