Beloved former Dallas Mavericks center Boban Marjanovic is headed overseas to continue his basketball career, marking the end of his nine-year journey in the NBA. According to a report by EuroHoops, Marjanovic has signed with Fenerbahçe, one of the most prominent basketball teams in Turkey, to play in the Basketball Super League (BSL).
Marjanovic, a 7-foot-4 center with a 7-foot-10 wingspan, has spent the past decade in the NBA, where his size and cheerful personality made him a fan favourite at every stop. The 36-year-old Serbian played for six different franchises during his career, but his longest stint came with the Dallas Mavericks, where he played for three seasons and captured the hearts of fans.
Marjanovic appeared in 100 games for the Mavericks, making eight starts and averaging 5.4 points and 3.6 rebounds per game. Despite often being used as a role player, Marjanovic’s presence on and off the court made him a fan favourite in Dallas and beyond.
His friendly demeanor and charisma endeared him to teammates, fans, and even opponents, making him a beloved figure across the NBA. During his time in Dallas, he developed a particularly strong friendship with Mavericks star Luka Dončić, creating numerous memorable moments both on and off the court.
While Marjanovic’s career in the NBA was defined by his bench contributions, his physical presence was impossible to ignore. Standing at 7-foot-4 with a towering wingspan, Marjanovic was often deployed in specific matchups, where his size could disrupt opponents and make him a defensive force near the rim.
In total, Marjanovic played 331 games in the NBA, suiting up for teams like the San Antonio Spurs, Detroit Pistons, LA Clippers, Philadelphia 76ers, Dallas Mavericks, and Houston Rockets. His time in the NBA allowed him to show not just his skills on the court but also his personality off it, leading to opportunities in movies such as John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and Hustle.
Before making the jump to the NBA, Marjanovic had an illustrious career in Europe. From 2013 to 2015, he was a dominant force in the BSL, winning the league’s MVP award twice. His return to Fenerbahçe marks a homecoming of sorts, as he now re-enters the league where he once established himself as one of Europe’s top players.
Marjanovic’s departure from the NBA comes after spending his last season with the Houston Rockets, where he wrapped up his tenure in the league after a two-year stint with the team. His final five seasons in the NBA were spent in Texas, between Dallas and Houston.
For Mavericks fans, the departure of Marjanovic is bittersweet. While they will miss his infectious personality and contributions on the court, many will continue to cherish the moments he provided during his time in Dallas. His move to Fenerbahçe likely signals the final chapter of his professional basketball career, which now comes full circle as he returns to dominate in Turkey’s top league.
