It came down to two Phoenix Suns teammates but in the end Devin Booker prevailed over Deandre Ayton to win the first NBA 2K20 Players-Only Tournament.
Booker and Ayton had to battle their way to the final by overcoming some tough games but Booker got the best of Ayton to take home the title on Saturday.
With the win, Booker gets a $100,000 donation in his name to the Direct Relief and Arizona Food Bank Network in their efforts to fight the impact of COVID-19.
Devin Booker had a close battle against Clippers forward Montrezl Harrell in the semifinals but was able to handle Ayton much easier, sweeping the best-of-three final.
Keep in mind that this tournament began with 16 NBA players and that each one chose eight teams they could use. Once they picked a team then they could not use it for the rest of the tournament. Many preferred the Lakers, Clippers and Bucks but Booker beating a talented video game player like Ayton, who used the Bucks, proves how talented he is as a gamer.
Booker loves video games, he actually learned of the suspension of the NBA season while live-streaming Call of Duty: Warzone on Twitch.
“I played a lot growing up,” Booker said after the win. “It’s all about timing and eye coordination.”
ESPN broadcast the three-day Xbox One competition.
Booker used the Houston Rockets to beat Ayton’s Lakers 72-62 in Game 1 and as mentioned above the Nuggets to get a 74-62 victory over the Bucks in the second.
“Anyone who thinks they can play 2K, let’s get it,” Booker added.
