The Chicago Bulls have made a shock move for free agent and hometown boy Patrick Beverley as they desperately needed someone to fill in the point guard position. They needed that depth and now they have got someone who is a leader in his own right and can be a great addition to their team as he returns to Chicago, his home.
Beverley was with the Los Angeles Lakers until they decided late in the trade window to trade away the veteran point guard. Hence he was ship[ped to Orlando Magic but the Magic were quick to waive as they had no intentions of keeping a point guard on their roster who is on ther wrong side of 30.
Therefore, the Chicago Bulls saw the opportunity and decided to snap him up as they were eager for some depth in the point guard position and also him joining his hometown franchise would seriously be a motivational typing for the Bulls. While many people may ignore the free signing of Pat Bev, it is truly a very crucial one for the Bulls for the remainder of their current campaign.
The Chicago Bulls started their current campaign without their starting point guard, Lonzo Ball who was sidelined due to injury. That single handedly has hindered their season largely as it has directly affected their gameplay resulting in a array of poor results in tight games. However there is no positive news on Ball’s injury as he is dealing with knee issues and may miss the remainder of the season aswell.
Hence the Bulls have had a tough time looking for other options. They tried Ayo Dosunmu as a starter and though he has done well, it is not enough for the Bulls if they are looking at big things from the team this season. Dosunmu has averaged 9.5 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.8 assists for the Bulls as a starter this season. Bulls’ backup point guard Alex Caruso has done his job and therefore he is rightfully a fan favourite. His numbers are low on the offensive end but that is because of his defensive responsibilities. He has averaged 5.5 points, 3.1 rebounds and 3.2 assists from the bench this season.
So adding Patrick Beverley will give the Bulls that option to freshen things up a little. Dosunmu will be looking to pick Beverley’s brain and learn a thing or two from the veteran. Also given his defensive prowess, Beverley can play according to the situation and team requirement. They do not need to start him and can plan it out according to his strengths. Also given that this is his hometown team, his motivation will also be very high.
