Chet Holmgren Shines as Thunder Defeat Spurs, Besting Rival Victor Wembanyama

In an early showdown between two of the NBA’s most promising young big men, Chet Holmgren led the Oklahoma City Thunder to a convincing 105-93 victory over the San Antonio Spurs, besting fellow rookie standout Victor Wembanyama. 

With Holmgren dominating on both ends of the floor, the Thunder maintained their undefeated streak, moving to 4-0 on the season and standing alongside the Cleveland Cavaliers as the only unbeaten teams left.

Holmgren, the former Gonzaga star, showed his skill and tenacity throughout the game, delivering key plays that kept OKC in command. He finished with an efficient 19 points, shooting 7-of-10 from the field, while adding five rebounds, two steals, and two blocks across 28 minutes. 

His performance included an impressive defensive sequence where he recorded two blocks on a single possession, further energizing the Thunder and wowing fans.

The game marked the latest chapter in a budding rivalry between Holmgren and Wembanyama, two players whose height, skill, and potential have drawn widespread attention. 

Although Wembanyama, the highly anticipated rookie from France, struggled offensively with just six points on 1-of-5 shooting, he managed to contribute defensively with three blocks and eight rebounds. 

The Spurs rookie had an uncharacteristically quiet night, posting a career-low scoring performance, while Holmgren’s consistent impact on both ends secured the victory for OKC.

Currently, Holmgren holds a 5-1 advantage in head-to-head matchups against Wembanyama, dating back to their amateur days.
