The Brooklyn Nets had a very chaotic offseason with star players requesting trades and there was a lot of talk around the franchise after they were swept by the Boston Celtics in the first round of the playoffs. Things were starting to fall off for them as an organization but finally the players decided to run it back once more as they were convinced by the management to stay for atleast one more season.
While there are different personalities in Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant and Ben Simmons in the setup, it is also true that they are massively talented and are one of the contenders to win the Championship. However to win the title they will need to work together as a unit, something that we have not seen them do last season.
It has not been a great start for the Nets this season, they have struggled a lot this season as they are 1-3 this season and have suffered two consecutive defeats against the Memphis Grizzlies and Milwaukee Bucks.
Recently Charles Barkley sat down with Bill Simmons in the “Bill Simmons Podcast’ to discuss various topics around the NBA. There Barkley spoke about the Brooklyn Nets as he feels that this is the most fascinating team that he has seen in the last 30years. “They could win the championship, or they could get a new coach by Christmas,” Barkley said. “It’s one of the most fascinating things I’ve seen in my 30-40 years in the NBA basically.
He shared how Brooklyn Nets might win the Championship this season but they can also get a new coach by Christmas and would not surprise Barkely as he feels their season can go both extremes. “If they won the championship, I wouldn’t be surprised. If they got their coach fired by Christmas, I wouldn’t be surprised. It’s like one of those trainwrecks that you’re like, ‘Oh, I got to watch this.'”
The Brooklyn Nets need both Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving to fire to elevate their season. But both of them had several issues during the offseason with trade requests and what not. Even Ben Simmons who is thought to the third superstar of this team has had a slow start with too many fouls disrupting the play. They will also need the Australian guard to come to good for them as he can be the main man in defence for them going forward.
