Bronny James, the 20-year-old son of NBA superstar LeBron James, has been listed as doubtful for the Los Angeles Lakers’ upcoming game against the Utah Jazz on Tuesday night due to a bruised left heel. The injury was disclosed on Monday when the Lakers updated their injury report.
Bronny, who made history with his father as the first father-son duo to play in the NBA simultaneously, has had limited NBA action this season. Playing sparingly for the Lakers while also representing their G League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers, Bronny has logged 16 minutes in five NBA games, scoring four points.
In the G League, Bronny has seen more significant playing time. On Sunday, he started for South Bay in a game against Stockton, scoring four points on 2-for-10 shooting over 25 minutes in a loss. A week earlier, he scored six points in South Bay’s season opener, with LeBron and his wife Savannah James attending both games.
Despite his limited NBA minutes, Bronny’s presence has garnered attention as he balances his development in the G League with occasional appearances for the Lakers.
However, the young guard has yet to share significant on-court moments with his father during regular-season games, as his NBA minutes have primarily come in the final moments of games with outcomes already decided.
The Lakers, meanwhile, are enjoying a strong start to their season. With a 9-4 record, they are on a five-game winning streak and remain undefeated at home (6-0). LeBron, in his record-tying 22nd NBA season, has been a standout, recently recording four consecutive triple-doubles before the streak ended in the team’s win over New Orleans last Saturday.
In addition to Bronny, the Lakers are also dealing with injury concerns for starting forward Rui Hachimura, who has missed the past two games due to an ankle injury. Hachimura did not participate in Monday’s practice, but head coach JJ Redick expressed optimism about his recovery.
“He’s making a lot of progress,” Redick said, adding that the team hopes Hachimura will rejoin practice later in the week during their three-game homestand.
As the Lakers prepare to face the Jazz, their depth will be tested. For Bronny, this setback will delay his journey to earning more playing time alongside his father, but the young guard remains a significant part of the Lakers’ future.
