Famous pop star Britney Spears was recently involved in an incident which left a bad taste in her mouth as wanted to get a photo with the No. 1 draft pick, Victor Wembanyama. Apparently, Spears is a big fan of the new San Antonio Spurs big man and when she saw him at the ARIA Hotel and Casino, she could not resist but ask for a photo.
However, the experience that she had is not one she will forget anytime soon. Spears was allegedly struck in the face by one of Wembanyama’s security guards. It was very embarrassing for the pop star as she received such treatment.
She later told ESPN,” I have yet to get a public apology from the player, his security, or their organization. I hope they will.”
Wembanyama was at the restaurant with his teammates as he will make his Summer League debut against the Charlotte Hornets. However, he spoke to the media about the incident. “I couldn’t stop. That person was calling me, ‘Sir, sir,’ and that person grabbed me from behind. I didn’t see what happened because I was walking straight and didn’t stop. That person grabbed me from behind — not on my shoulder, she grabbed me from behind,” Wembanyama explained the situation to the media.
He shared that he had no idea who the person was and only knew that his security pushed her away. “I just know the security pushed her away. I don’t know with how much force but security pushed her away. I didn’t stop to look so I could walk in and enjoy a nice dinner,” he added.
Wembanyama’s security guard instructed the Frenchman to not stop to sign autographs or pose for photos.
As TMZ, the security guard who struck Britney Spears was Damian Smith, the Director of Team Security for the San Antonio Spurs. However the footage from the restaurant have emerged and it shows the interaction and how Smith shoves Spears away and amid the chaos it was her hand that struck her face and not Smith’s.
TMZ also reported something totally different to what Spears said. They reported that the security guard came to Spears and apologized and the popstar also accepted the apology.
“We’re told the security guy came over to the table and apologized. He said, ‘You understand how it is when you’re being swarmed by fans.’ He apologized and Britney accepted it. BTW, we’re told he also said when he slapped her he didn’t know who she was,” TMZ reported.
Wembanyama is concentrating on his NBA Summer League debut as he will be up against Brandon Miller’s Charlotte Hornets. Miller was the No.2 draft pick of this year and it will be interesting to see the top two picks go up against each other in the Summer League.
Two nights later, Wembanyama’s Spurs will face the Portland Trail Blazers and the No.3 pick Scoot Henderson. So there’s a lot of excitement around the Summer League this time with the top rookies facing each other.
