Boston Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum wrote a heartfelt letter for his former teammate Robert Williams, who was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers as the Celtics managed to get Jrue Holiday to form their newest ‘Big 4’.
Along with Williams, the deal also included Malcolm Brogdon and two first-round picks to get their hands on Jrue Holiday, who has been brilliant for the Milwaukee Bucks in the last few seasons and if he maintains that form, he can be crucial for the Celtics as well.
However, Tatum was very heartbroken with the departure of Williams whom he has shared the dressing room for five years. So he wrote a heartfelt tributary on Instagram, saying his goodbye to Timelord.
“This one hurt,” Tatum wrote. “My brother right here. The toughest part about this business, appreciate you for everything.”
Tatum acknowledges the player that the young big man has become and wants him to keep striving. “Super proud of the player you have become and excited to see how far you take it. Keep striving to be special and never change who you are. My dawg 4L (for life) till we link up again. Nothing but love,” Tatum added.
Williams averaged eight points, 8.3 rebounds in 35 regular season games last season. He played a vital role in the Celtics frontcourt and added to the depth that made them one of the contenders for the title.
Now with his departure, there will be a considerable void in Celtics frontcourt with Al Horford starting for them and the likes of Luke Kornet, Kristaps Porzingis, and Oshae Brissett remain the other options to play in that role.
However, the decision to trade Williams was pivotal in securing Jrue Holiday. He is one of the NBA’s premier perimeter defenders and can also do a job offensively. Whereas Timelord has been extremely inconsistent with his fitness which has at times hurt the Celtics in return.
This trade followed after the Celtics allowed their mainstay Marcus Smart to leave and got Kristaps Porzingis in return. It will be interesting to see if the Celtics make any other move or not considering their lack of depth on the front court. However, with Holiday they have a solid starting five which makes them one of the contenders along with the Denver Nuggets and the Milwaukee Bucks, who snapped up Damian Lillard.
