The Boston Celtics are heading to the NBA Finals after securing a clean sweep in their Eastern Conference semi-final series against the Indiana Pacers. The Celtics clinched the series with a thrilling 105-102 victory, highlighted by Jaylen Brown’s crucial play in the final moments.
With just 45 seconds remaining, Brown found Derrick White, who sank a decisive three-pointer to ensure the Celtics’ win and complete the 4-0 series triumph. This marks the second time in three seasons that Boston has reached the NBA Finals.
“It’s been nothing but a grind, we haven’t skipped any steps all season,” said Brown, reflecting on the team’s journey. “We’ve got a bunch of great guys in this locker room, tough guys. Our coaching staff has been great, front office great and now we want to take the next step.”
Brown was a standout performer in the game, scoring 29 points. He was well-supported by Jayson Tatum, who contributed 26 points, 13 rebounds, and eight assists. Their combined efforts were pivotal in overcoming the Pacers and advancing to the Finals.
Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla praised his team’s dedication and the depth of talent within the squad. “Look at all the talent, look at the players we have,” Mazzulla said. “It’s really all about them, they let us coach them. They allow us to push them, they listen to us and they set the temperature of the organisation every single day.”
Mazzulla emphasized the importance of the players’ trust and willingness to be coached, which he views as a significant factor in the team’s success. “As a coach, the greatest gift you can have is a group of guys that trust you and allow you to coach them,” he added.
The Celtics’ journey through the post-season has been impressive. They have dominated their fixtures, defeating the Miami Heat, the Cleveland Cavaliers, and the Indiana Pacers with an overall 12-2 record. This formidable run has set the stage for their 23rd appearance in the NBA Finals.
Boston now awaits the outcome of the Western Conference finals to determine their opponent. The Dallas Mavericks currently lead the Minnesota Timberwolves 3-0 in the best-of-seven series, with game four set to take place at 01:30 BST on Wednesday. The Celtics will face either the Mavericks or the Timberwolves in what promises to be an electrifying NBA Finals.
As the Celtics prepare for the final showdown, the team’s focus remains on taking the ultimate step to secure the championship. Their experienced leadership and emerging talent have been crucial in their journey so far, and they will rely on these strengths as they aim for the title.
The anticipation is high, and fans are eagerly awaiting the continuation of Boston’s remarkable season. With the Finals on the horizon, the Celtics are determined to bring another championship back to Boston.
