It’s that time of the year again when the oddsmakers bring out their judgement of which team is tipped to win it all in the upcoming NBA campaign. The oddsmakers once again have the Brooklyn Nets as one of the favourites to win it all after Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving decided to run it back with the Nets despite their issues early on in the offseason.
The Nets made a huge jump from bottom ten to top ten and now are among the favourites to win the NBA Championship. While KD and Kyrie Irving are undoubtedly one of the biggest superstars that the game has ever seen, having them in the mix definitely raises their stakes for the upcoming NBA season. With that they also have the third asset of Ben Simmons joining in and being that defensive enforcer in this team that surely has a lot of potential.
But like Bill Simmons many people are questioning about the issues that these players had at the start of the offseason. Many feel that the issues will be coming back and it is going to be a recipe for disaster for the Brooklyn Nets. Therefore Bill Simmons is not positive about a team that has players like Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and Ben Simmons who have history of creating issues and putting their franchises in jeopardy in the past and Simmons feels that there is no reason to count it out again.
“The media microscope of just every move, quote, everything is gonna be dissected and somebody like Kyrie, he has something every day. He can’t help himself. I think it’s gonna be a soap opera and a mess, and if you could tell me this is actually gonna be great or this is gonna be an absolute disaster, I would go absolute disaster,” Bill Simmons shared on his podcast.
The Nets trio do have history of having themselves tangled in plenty of issues. Starting with Ben Simmons who was part of the main fiasco back at Philadelphia 76ers where he decided to go on a riot against the franchise and ultimately got traded to Brooklyn and since then has been struggling with injuries.
Next up, Kyrie Irving has also been at the center of the drama which involved him not taking vaccines and missing out on a major chunk of matches due to mandates in place. But he did not shy away from asking for max extension and even placed a trade request early on in the offseason. Similarly Kevin Durant also placed a trade request and created an unnecessary issue around the franchise during the offseason.
