The entire Ben Simmons fiasco involving the Philadelphia 76ers has been the most trending news in the NBA during this offseason. However, in a shocking turn of events, the Australian point guard gave in on his refusal to feature for the club as he requested a trade.
Reports suggest that Simmons’ representatives were looking to reach a middle ground with the Sixers management. Hence he returned to take a Covid test before a likely return to practice by the end of the week.
However, this does not really mean a change of heart for the 25-year-old. He has lost a lot of money on fines so he is trying to cover up on that end as his Philadelphia residence is still on the market.
Keeping the reason aside, Simmons was welcomed by his teammate, Joel Embiid, who earlier called the Australian’s behaviour borderline disrespectful and disappointing.
So when he heard about Simmons coming back, there was an instant change in reaction from the big man as he feels that it is good for him and also for the team in general.
“That is good for the organisation,” said Embiid. “That’s something that everybody wanted. I’ve always said that I believe that he gives us the best chance to win.
“Personally, I haven’t talked to him since the season ended. Obviously, I tried, but it wasn’t successful as a lot of my teammates have.
“Like I said, it’s unfortunate the whole situation happened, but like I say we are a better team with him on the floor. I think there’s gonna be some adjustments, but it doesn’t need to be awkward. I mean, we are professionals.
“We want to win. I want to win. So he gives us the best chance to win so that’s what I’m gonna go with.”
Sixers young guard Isaiah Joe was also elated with Simmons’ return as he was pretty but reiterated the same thing said by their star center, Joel Embiid. He also feels that with the Australian back in their lineup, the Sixers are a better team and have more chances of winning matches. He also shared how Simmons is a friend of his.
