Anthony Edwards’ exponential development impresses Team USA coach Steve Kerr ahead of the 2023 FIBA World Cup

With the FIBA Basketball World Cup fast approaching, all eyes are on Team USA led by their superstar coach Steve Kerr. However, another player who has recently made a name for himself has to be Anthony Edwards. While in the era of man management coaches try to maintain unity and praise the unit collectively. But Kerr could not resist as he anointed Edwards to be the main man of this team.

The Timberwolves No. 1 pick from 2020 has gone from strength to strength. He just touched 22 and is coming off a brilliant NBA season. Edwards averaged 24.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 1.6 steals over 79 starts. He does all of this despite being in a team that already has Karl Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert.

The young baller has that alpha mentality which is working in his favour at the moment and it sets him apart from the other young players. Team USA have a well-rounded, youthful but star-studded roster and even in that Edwards is getting ample opportunities to shine and make a name for himself.

He spearheaded USA’s 13-point comeback against Germany in the FIBA Basketball World Cup warm-up match. The 22-year-old was so impressed with him that he couldn’t resist praising him in front of the camera.

“He’s unquestionably ‘the guy’. I mean, he knows it, but now the team knows it, and I think the fans see it,” said Kerr, describing Edwards after his 34-point showing against Germany.

Edwards is always known for his relentless hustle as a player. He always looks to push boundaries and force himself to learn new things and improve at things that he isn’t good at. Therefore looking at his work ethic, someone as experienced and as great as coach Steve Kerr praised him individually was surely a moment to savour for Edwards.

While his career graph has been fascinating many people believe that he will only continue to grow more as a player in the coming NBA seasons. They feel that he will gradually take steps towards superstardom. Even Kerr also believes in this thought as he rates the Timberwolves star very highly.

Even mainstream media people are also joining the Ant-Man hype train as many believe that with the improvement that he has shown every passing NBA season, he can be the NBA MVP next season.

Coming to FIBA Basketball World Cup will start on August 25 but USA will start their campaign the next day against New Zealand. They are in Group C along with Greece, New Zealand and Jordan. The tournament will run till September 10.
