NBA analyst Charles Barkley believes Anthony Davis has disappointed everybody with his underwhelming performances. There have always been high expectations from Davis as he has all the skills but he hasn’t been able to stand tall to them.
The 29-year-old has struggled with a plethora of injuries in the last few seasons and thus he has failed to deliver his best. Davis has lived in the shadows of LeBron James as the veteran has performed more consistently.
Davis hasn’t been able to live up to the hype and it has been disappointing for the Lakers.
Speaking on Inside the NBA, the analyst stated: “There’s no way that a 38-year-old guy should be the best player on an NBA team, no matter how great LeBron is. Anthony Davis, I said five years ago, this guy is going to be the best player in the world in the next – and he’s disappointed us.”
“He’s disappointed, everybody. He should have been the best player in the league by now.”
Meanwhile, Davis has been at his best in the ongoing season and he has delivered for the team in the absence of LeBron James, who is nursing a groin injury.
Davis is averaging 26.4 points, 12.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.7 steals, and 2.1 blocks per game in the 15 matches he has played. The Lakers star came up with another fine performance against Phoenix Suns on Tuesday night as he dropped 37 points but his efforts went in vain as the team lost 105-115.
Before this loss, the Lakers won three consecutive matches against San Antonio Spurs, Detroit Pistons, and New Orleans Pelicans. Davis had played a key role in the team’s win, scoring more than 30 points in all these three games.
The Lakers will once again face San Antonio Spurs on Friday night.
