Philadelphia 76ers has announced Daryl Morey as its new President of Basketball operations; this came along with the announcement that GM Elton Brand has signed a multi-year contract extension on Monday.
The announcement comes days after news reported that Daryl was in discussions with the 76ers last week.
Daryl moves to the Sixers after spending 14 seasons with the Rockets where he stepped down as GM last month after the team failed to get to the NBA Finals despite blockbuster moves.
Irrespective, Morey during his time, led the Rockets to the playoffs ten times in 13 years, he was appointed in 2007.
He also oversaw the longest active streak for the playoffs appearances in the NBA with 8 consecutive appearances for the Rockets.
Philadelphia team owner, Josh Harris, explained that the record of Daryl was too extraordinary to ignore once he became available and the 76ers moved as soon as possible to hire him.
The team owner said: “Talent like Daryl rarely becomes available so we moved quickly and aggressively to bring him here, He has an extraordinary track record of success in this league as an innovator, visionary and leader, and I believe he significantly improves our chances of delivering a championship caliber team to our fans.
“This offseason, we made it our mission to make this organization better and stronger. “Josh Harris added.
Morey was in charge when the Houston Rockets recorded 640-400, they also recorded a franchise-record of 65 regular-season games in the 2017-18 season.
On his part, Morey appreciated the trust of John Harris in hiring him and promised to work hard in winning the fans of the 76ers over.
The new NBA season doesn’t have a date yet, and reports say that the NBA players do not favour the 72-game calendar which was recently proposed by the NBA Board of Directors.
